The Ivory Coast Football Federation has related to Didier
Drogba that he is not eligible to stand in the upcoming elections to be the
next president of the association.
The FIF Electoral Commission stated that the former Chelsea
skipper did not fulfill its long list of eligibility criteria. Drogba, along
with three others submitted their papers to stand in the polls earlier this
month. But his bid was rejected as two of the names he submitted as sponsors
were deemed not to have necessary authority to do so.
His ineligibility will come as a blow to the thousands of football
fans in Ivory Coast whom have come out to show support for him when he submitted
his bid earlier this month.
He has five days to appeal against the decision against him.
Drogba made more than 100 appearances for his country
including the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
