World no 2, Simona Halep, has pulled out of the US Open amid concerns
about the coronavirus pandemic. She made the announcement on her Twitter
account stating that she priorities her health over the game of tennis.
“After weighing up all the factors involved and with the
exceptional circumstances in which we are living, I have decided that I will
not travel to New York to play the @usopen. I always said I would put my health
at the heart of my decision,” read her tweet.
She stated she will rather stay in Europe and train. The announcement
came few moments after she won at the Prague Open.

She joins the likes of Ashleigh Barty, Bianca Andrescu and Elina Svitolina who have already withdrawn from the upcoming tournament
