Djokovic disqualified from the US Open

Novak Djokovic has piled more misery on his questionable reputation as he was disqualified from the US Open following the incident where he hit a lines woman with the ball.

Unbeatable on the court since 2020, however the same 2020 has seen him damage his legacy further more after the incident. The world no. 1 had his serve cancelled as he was trailing by a 6-5 score in the first set of the fourth match in the US Open. Out of frustration, he struck a lines woman, who immediately showed she was hurt. He pleaded his cause after a lengthy discussion between him and the tournament officials before he accepted his fate and walked off the court.

“This whole situation has left me really sad and empty. I checked on the lines person and the tournament told me thank God she is feeling okay. I am extremely sorry to have caused her such stress. So unintended. So wrong. I’m not disclosing her name to respect her privacy,” the 33-year old said.

Djokovic who would also pay a fine for skipping his press conference apologized also to the tournament and everyone associated.

It is a shocking end to his hopes of winning his 18 Grand Slam title. Since his debut in 2003, the Serb has won 80 singles title including 17 Grand Slams and also the only player with titles at all nine ATP Masters 1000 events
