New disciplinary measures for Spanish football

The Spanish Football Federation have made several changes to the disciplinary rule in Spanish football. These changes would come into play next season following its approval by the government’s sports council.

These measures include:

-          No ban for yellow cards picked up in the previous season. Any yellow card accumulation picked up by a player at the end of the previous season will now be taken off record as opposed to the former rule which forces the player to sit out. All players go in to a new season on a fresh start.

-          A clean slate in the Copa del Rey semifinals. Any booking picked up in the Copa del Rey is to be voided after the quarter-final stage meaning that players won’t be in danger of missing a game in the knockout stages due to accumulation of yellow cards.

-          Punishment for dissent. Players who show dissent to officials or players both on and off the pitch will be punished severly.
