A Protest  was staged Today September 4, by Members of the coalition for Civil Societies in Osun State over the recent hike in electricity tariff and petrol price.

The Federal Government through the Petroleum Pricing Marketing Company (PPMC) increased the ex-depot price of petrol from N138 to N151.56 per litre, forcing marketers to increase pump price from N148 to N162 per litre on Wednesday, September 2.

Also on September 1,the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) directed the various electricity do companies in the country to begin the implementation of the new electricity tariff regime which will see Nigerians paying more for electricity.

The protesters converged at a popular park,Nelson Mandela Freedom Park ,Old garage and marched to Ola-Iya Juncture at about 9:15am, carrying different placards.

They expressed sadness over the decision of the government to increase petrol pump price and electricity tariff at a Time like this when Nigerians are still dealing with the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. They argued that the increase is the highest level of "insensitivity and wickedness from the Buhari-led government."
