Exclusive Interview With “KAPPY”

 

Last week, we had an exclusive interview with fast rising Nigerian rapper, Anamasonye Chike Leonard who is popularly known by his stage name, Kappy. It was a really exciting one as we got to find out how he started and who has influenced him in the music industry. Below is the a full interview as conducted by our team.

Exclusive Interview With “KAPPY” on Diva9ja

Diva9ja: So, whats the real name?

Kappy: My name is Anamasonye Chike Leonard.

Diva9ja: What first got you into music?

Kappy: Its actually the love I got for the craft that made me get into it. Started out writing rhymes and then grew from there.

Diva9ja: And how long has this been?

Kappy: Been writing rhymes since 2013 but I had the opportunity to record my first single by 2016.

Diva9ja: You used to go by the name “K Fresh” and now Kappy, what’s with both names?

Kappy: Yea its simply growth. The k stands for Kaptain (Captain) and thats what people called me before I decided to add some drip to the name, Kappy (smiles).

Diva9ja: Who inspired you to make music?

Kappy: On the real that would be Big Sean. The more I listened to his music the more I discovered my love for the art. Especially after listening to "Paradise"  and the whole "Dark sky paradise album".

Diva9ja: How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Kappy: Right now I would say I'm in the trap phase of my music. Generally I'm experimenting different genres.

Diva9ja: What is your creative process like?

Kappy: Privately when I'm writing I just go through couple of beats on my phone and any vibe I catch in the process I create from there.

Diva9ja: So you write along with the beat?

Kappy: Yea I do but once I'm in the studio I just vibe the lyrics to the producer and he does his thing.

Diva9ja: What about freestyles, how can you rate yourself when it comes to freestyling?

Kappy: 😁 I would say I'm a 6 out of 10 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Diva9ja: Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Kappy: Locally I know me and Rema would create dope stuff.

Diva9ja: Ok, then what about the international scene?

Kappy: Internationally I would love to work with Big Sean, Drake and Areece.

Diva9ja: If you could go open a show for any of these artist who would it be?

Kappy: That would be Drake.

Diva9ja: Why Drake, you mentioned Big Sean too?

Kappy: Yea but I feel like my audience is more on the Drake vibe.

Diva9ja: What is the most useless talent you have?

Kappy: Lols, I don’t think I have any.

Diva9ja: What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

Kappy: I would probably be following my love for playing football (smiles).

Diva9ja: You good in football?

Kappy: Yea, I would say I’m good.

Diva9ja: What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

Kappy: Nah bro, I don’t get into trouble, I move smart (smiles). 

Diva9ja: What’s next for you?

Kappy: Right now I'm just writing songs and recording. Planning on dropping a debut EP or Album, and developing a couple more skills.

Diva9ja: So what message will you like to give to your fans and anyone that reads this?
