Apologise or face disciplinary actions, NFF warns

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have sent orders to the Rivers United Football Club to tender an unreserved apology to the federation within 48hrs or risk facing disciplinary actions from the federation.

This is in regard to how Rivers United reacted to the Nigeria football governing body’s decision to draw up the final table of the NPFL 19/20 season which saw Enyimba take the second place while Rivers finished third. Rivers United had equal number of points with Enyimba but a superior goal difference against the said team. And by placement, Enyimba were handed a CAF Champions League slot while Rivers United got the CAF Confederations Cup.

Rivers United have since rebutted the final table insisting that their team should be placed second based off of application of the rule of goal difference as against head-to-head adopted by NFF and the League Management Company.

In a two-page letter signed by the General Secretary of the NFF, Mohammed Sanusi, it stated in a section that Rivers United has been asked to apologise over allegations of half-truths, deliberate distortion and obvious misinformation against the NFF. The letter also frowned at a comment made by the club which the federation found to be disparaging.

Failure to meet the demands of the federation would see them be meted with disciplinary actions.
