Ligue 1 club Rennes blasts UCL anthem at 3am

Rennes have sealed a berth in Champions League group stage for the 2020/21 season. Residents close to the French team’s stadium were unexpectedly woken up by 3am on Wednesday by the sound of the Champions League anthem, which was blaring out of the stadium speakers.

Rennes confirmed they had earlier held a ‘small event’ at their stadium to celebrate their first ever place in the group stage in the wake of Sevilla’s elimination of English based side, Wolves.

Sevilla’s win over Wolves on Tuesday night freed up the group stage spot reserved for the Europa League winners, as all four remaining teams have already sealed their spot for next season’s UCL campaign.

Rennes finished third in the points-per-game table, earning them a Champions League qualification.
