Sarina Weigman signs four year deal with England

Sarina Weigman has signed a four year deal to succeed Phil Neville as England head coach from September 2021. The Dutch was the FA’s preferred choice out of the reported 142 candidates who applied and this week saw both parties work out the last details of the contract.

The FA announced earlier in April that current head coach, Phil Neville, would not extend his contract when it expires next summer. This made them speed up in the search for a replacement ahead of time.

Weigman led the Netherlands to a title in Euro 2017 on home soil and also took her team to the Women’s World Cup final two years later.

Weigman has reiterated that she is delighted to join the England Women next year and is looking forward to contributing her experience and expertise to the ambitious team.
