Victoria Azarenka and Naomi Osaka
would be facing each other at the US Open final on Saturday evening. The two
players are yet to lose a single match since the WTA’s resumption and either
one of them is going to get better off the other at the decider.
“I think it’s going to be an
amazing final, I hope it will be. Naomi’s a very, very powerful player. She is
a great chapion. She has won two already. Aren’t we both looking for a third
one? It will be fun,” Azarenka said.
Azarenka saw off Serena Williams in
style after losing the opening set 6-1 during their semifinal clash. Azarenka and
Osaka were scheduled to meet in the Western and Southern Open final, but Osaka
had to withdraw few hours ahead of the match citing an injury scare.
“I am so excited to play her
[Azarenka] because we were supposed to play last week. It is going to be super
fun. She plays incredibly. I watched her semifinal a little and they had some
incredible rallies. She is super powerful, so I’ll have to stay strong and have
fun. Playing a final is a blessing and a great opportunity, so I’ll take all
the fun out of it,” Osaka said.
Their only previous meeting was
back in 2016 at the Australian Open where Azarenka prevailed 6-1 6-1.
