Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood are
to travel back to England, the head coach confirmed, after the duo appeared to
have breached the coronavirus protocols. They would miss the Nations League
game against Denmark.
“Unfortunately this morning it was
brought to my attention that the two boys have broken the COVID guidelines in
terms of our secure bubble. We had to decide very quickly that they could not
have any interaction with the team, wouldn’t be able to train. Given the
procedures we have to follow now, they have to travel back to England
separately,” Southgate said.
Foden and Greenwood were reported
to have brought girls to the teams hotel but the head coach has said that the
breach occurred outside of the areas the squad occupy. Both made their full
debuts in England’s 1-0 win over Iceland.
The two Manchester clubs were the
two play their club football has also condemned their behavior stating their
disappointment.
