Paris Saint Germain have come out
to issue a statement supporting their player Neymar Jr. after the Brazilian
stated that he was racially abused by Alvaro Gonzalez during their 1-0 defeat
against Marseille in the Le Classique on Sunday night.
“Paris Saint-Germain strongly
supports Neymar Jr., who reported being subjected to racist abuse by an
opposing player. The club reiterate that there is no place for racism in society,
in football or in our lives and call on everyone to speak out against all forms
of discrimination throughout the world,” the club’s statement began.
“For more than 15 years the club
has been strongly committed to the fight against all forms of discrimination
alongside it partners SOS Racisme, Licra and Sportitude. Paris Saint-Germain
look forward to assisting the LFP’s Disciplinary Commission in investigating
and ascertaining the facts and it is in the hands of this body to assist in the
investigation.”
The investigation panel would reportedly
sit in the next few days to discuss the disciplinary measures on how to tackle
the incident that took place on Sunday’s Le Classique.
