Britain’s Kyle Edmund has said he
has nothing to lose ahead of his match against Novak Djokovic in the second
round of the US Open on Wednesday. Djokovic holds a 5-1 advantage in
head-to-head meetings against the Brit.
“It’s a match for me that I’ve got
nothing to lose. I have the experience of beating him but he has also beaten me
a bunch of times. He is a top player and the type of player who is tough to
break down,” Edmund said.
Edmund last won the Serb at the
2018 Madrid Open in three sets and is yet expecting to break down the world no.
1 and also favorite for the title.
Djokovic on his own part is
expecting a good challenge when he faces Kyle Edmund despite his advantage in
head-to-head. He also stated that his unbeaten season is not his priority as he
continues to chase what would be his 18th Grand Slam title.
Edmund sank Alexander Bublik while
Djokovic brushed aside Damir Dzumhur to book their place in the second round
where they would face each other.
