Modern day shock in Formula 1 as Gasly wins the Italian GP

Pierre Gasly caused a shocker in the Italian Grand Prix as he won his maiden race with AlphaTauri in what was a dramatic and incident filled race at Monza. The Frenchman held off a stiff competition from Carlos Sainz by less than a second to an emotional victory.

AlphaTauri, with Gasly’s win, becomes the first team not named Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull to win a race since 2013. Their last win under the name Toro Rosso came back in 2008 with Sebastian Vettel behind the wheels.

Lewis Hamilton who finished seventh in the ranks was leading the race at the early stages before he was handed a costly penalty for pitting when the pit lane was actually closed after Kevin Magnussen has stopped at the side of the track. Hamilton had to drop to the back of the field and raced back through to the ranks to finish seventh.

It was a horror day for Ferrari as Charles Leclerc suspended his race after 27 laps while Sebastian Vettel dropped early on the game due to brake failure.

Racing Point’s Lance Stroll finished third with Lando Norris settling for the fourth position.
