Ligue 1 opener postponed amid coronavirus concerns

The opening match of the 20/21 Ligue 1 top flight season between Marseille and Saint Etienne has been postponed after four new cases of coronavirus emerged at Marseille.

Marseille were due to host Saint Etienne in the first fixture of Ligue 1 20/21 season, but the match has been postponed and will now likely be played between 16 and 17 September, 2020.

This comes off a French league protocol for dealing with the virus which stated that more than three positive cases at a club would likely lead to a postponement.

Jordan Amavi

Marseille’s Jordan Amavi tested positive last week, which lead to the cancellation of their friendly game vs Stuggart. And now, three players have followed in the wake of another test.
