Manchester United midfielder,
Nemanja Matic, has called time on his international career. He made the call in
a bid to pave way for Serbia’s young players to rise through the ranks, the
Serbian Football Association announced.
Matic made 48 appearances for his
country while scoring two goals since making his debut back in 2008.
“We respect his decision. He is 32
years old and he’s had an exerting club season. European club football is
demanding and hence we are aware that we will have to inject fresh blood into
the national team,” Vladimir Matijasevic said.
“Other than saying it was time for
younger players to take over, Matic did not state any other specific reasons
for quitting,” he added.
