Ronaldinho released from house arrest

A judge in Paraguay has ordered the release of Ronaldinho and his elder brother Roberto from their house arrest after the two spent almost a month in jail awaiting trials on charges of using false passports to enter the country.

Ronaldinho was released from house arrest on Monday after being in custody for close to six months for using a fake passport. The judge suspended the charges against Ronaldinho and his brother after it appeared they struck a bargain with the prosecutors.

Under terms of the deal with his prosecutors, Ronaldinho agreed to a 90,000 USD fine and will report to a federal judge in Brazil every three months for 2 years while his brother, Roberto, was ordered to pay 110,000 USD and will not be allowed to leave Brazil over a 2-year period.

Their arrest in Paraguay came after the two traveled to the country to participate in a children’s charity event and promote a new book.
