41-year old Daniel Cormier has
confirmed retirement from UFC after his loss to Stipe Miocic which left him
badly injured. “You have to understand when it’s time,” Cormier said.
He also said that it was going to
be a goodbye and it has been a hell of a ride for him in his career and
insisted there is no way back for him in the sport because he can’t perform at
the highest level at his age anymore.
“I am not going to fight anymore. I
was talking to Joe Rogan after the fight and I told him my interest is fighting
for championships and I can’t imagine with a loss that I’d be fighting for a
belt again. I lost two fights in a row for the first time in my career. You’ve
got to understand when it’s time, and the reality is part of the reason I got
hit with that right hand by [Miocic] is because I’m older. You can’t fight
father time,” he told ESPN.
He posted a farwell message to his followers on his
social media page.
Cormier was taken to the hospital after
the trilogy fight with Miocic where he tore his cornea during the clash and was
left blinded. He avoided needing an eye surgery to regain his vision despite
terribly suffering with his vision initially.
