Japanese Minister insists the Tokyo Olympics would hold in 2021

Speaking in a news conference, Japanese Minister Seiko Hashimoto has said that the rearranged Tokyo Olympics must be held in 2021 regardless of the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Everyone involved with the Games is working together to prepare and the athletes are also making considerable efforts towards next year. I think we have to hold the Games at any cost. I want to concentrate all our efforts on measures against the coronavirus,” Hashimoto said.

The Olympics organizers are already looking at possible ways to contain the virus should it linger on by 2021. The Tokyo Olympics is scheduled to start in July 23rd, 2021.
