Arsenal wins the Community Shield

The Gunners saw off the defending Premier League champions in the Community Shield showdown in London after a penalty shootout proved to be the decider.

Liverpool entered the game as prime favorites having won the Premier League and an impressive run of form against Arsenal only losing once in five years. Arsenal came on to defy the odds after they opened the scoring early on in the game with Aubameyang finishing off a salient Bukayo Saka pass.

A good decision to bring in their January signing, Takumi Minamino, paid off as he got the equalizer for the Reds in the 73 minute in what seemed to be controversial.

There was no chance for a winning goal with the game heading straight for penalty shootouts where Arsenal beat Liverpool. Rhian Brewster missed his kick for the Reds as his effort hit the woodwork.  A winning penalty from Aubameyang sealed the deal for Arsenal.
