The 22-year old Japanese, Naomi
Osaka, withdrew from the final of the Western and Southern Open, which meant a
victory as champion for Victoria Azarenka.
“I’m sorry to have to withdraw
today with an injury. I pulled my left hamstring yesterday in the second set
tiebreak and it has not recovered overnight as I hoped,” Osaka said.
Osaka defeated Elsie Mertens in a
straight set on Friday to reach the finals but sustained an injury during the
game.
She would be hoping to bounce back
on the court in New York on Monday as US Open begins.
Azarenka own her first WTA title
since Miami in 2016.
