Fans to be allowed for UEFA Super Cup

The European football governing body, UEFA, has confirmed that there will be fans in attendance at September 24 UEFA Super Cup match that will see the Europa League winner, Sevilla face Champions League winner, Bayern Munich.

 

Fans of Bayern Munich and Sevilla will be allowed to attend the game in Budapest but the stadium will operate at a vastly reduced capacity. Not more than 30 percent of seats will be occupied, according to UEFA. The Puskas Arena has 68,000 seating capacity, meaning around 20,000 fans would be permitted into the stadium.

 

The decision came up after they governing body said it wants to study precisely the impact of spectators on the UEFA Return to Play protocol amid the coronavirus pandemic.

 

“While it has been important to show that football can carry on in difficult times, without fans, the game has lot something of its character. We hope to use the UEFA Super Cup in Budapest as a pilot that will begin to see the return of fans to our matches. We are working closely with the Hungarian federation and its government to implement measures to ensure the health of all those attending and participating in the game. We will not take risks with people’s safety,” UEFA President, Aleksander Ceferin, said.
