Aston Villa has broken their
transfer record by signing Brentford striker, Ollie Watkins on a five-year
deal. Villa is understood to have paid 28m pounds for Watkins surpassing the
22m pounds paid for Wesley who came from Club Brugge last year.
The 24-year old would reunite with
Dean Smith who signed him for Brentford in 2017. “Ollie has developed into one
of the most sought-after strikers in the country and we are looking forward to
seeing him show his great qualities in an Aston Villa shirt,” Smith said.
“He is a hugely determined
character who has both the ability and personality to succeed at the highest
level,” he added.
Watkins expressed his excitement to
joining Aston Villa and also reuniting with Dean Smith who would be his head
coach again. Watkins scored 26 goals for Brentford in the 19/20 season as they narrowly
missed out promotion to the Premier League losing to Fulham.
