Novak Djokovic has urged his fans
to show respect to the lines judge who he, out of frustration, hit with the
ball that had him disqualified from the US Open. The lines judge was reportedly bruised after
the incident but angry fans of the world no. 1 have attacked her for
overreacting to the incident.
“Dear #NoleFam thank you for your
positive messages. Please also remember the linesperson that was hit by the
ball last night needs our community’s support too. She’s done nothing wrong at
all. I ask you to stay especially supportive and caring to her during this
time. From this moments, we grow stronger and we rise above. Sharing love with
everyone,” the Serb tweeted.
The lines judge was reportedly not
at Flushing Meadows on Monday as it is said she is under observation by the
tournament doctor and would return to work when the doctor feel it is
appropriate.
Djokovic has been fined 10,000 USD
for skipping his mandatory press conference and would also forfeit his entire
prize money of 250,000 USD.
