Novak Djokovic has said that women
professionals are in talks on joining the Professional Tennis Players
Association (PTPA). The PTPA wants to co-exist with governing bodies while
giving players the platform to be heard on decisions that affect their livelihoods.
“Right now we are prioritizing to
gather as many players as possible, both male and female players, because there
is been a lot of talk about this being an only men’s organization or
association and it is not true,” Djokovic made it clear after his match against
Jan-Lennard Struff.
“I feel like we can all co-exist in
the same eco-system. It is very important for tennis players, being part of a very
global sport, to have their own 100 percent player-only representation. We have been talking with the women tennis
players in the last five, six days, trying to share as much information with
them as possible and hopefully get their support and get them in as well in big
numbers as part of this association,” he added.
This move has been opposed by
governing bodies who are rather calling for unity amongst all especially in
this pandemic period.
